The hospital bed usage in Nortwest Wisconsin is approaching 84% as of Wednesday. According to Amiee Wollmen Nesseth, Program Coordinator of the NW WI Healthcare Emergency Readniess Coalition, the increase in covid19 patients is one of the reasons for the increase. Nesseth says if a hospital is full, they will still care for you in an emergency, but would have to transfer you to another facility.  Nesseth says that hospitals are also seeing reduced staff levels due to staff being exposed to covid19 and having to quarantine.

A Dunn County Homeless Shelter will not operate this year due to the loss of volunteers. The Winter Haven shelter would normally be open during the overnight hours between November and March and needs between 100-200 volunteers. However because of the covid 19 pandemic, the shelter has not been able to attract the needed volunteers. The overnight shelter has been used for the last 9yrs and has a capacity of 10 people. Shelter organizers are hoping to receive a grant to allow them to pay for hotel rooms for those experiencing homelessness over the winter.

Two people are in custody after a high speed chase in St. Croix County on Wednesday. According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, troppers attempted to pull over a vehicle for speeding on I-94, but the driver fled onto Hwy 63 at Baldwin. The driver turned onto a dead end road leading to a farm, drove around a barn and then rammed the squad car. Two people fled from the vehicle but were found a short time later.

The Trump campaign will officially request a recount of ballots in Wisconsin.  Democratic Joe Biden won the state’s electoral votes according to Wednesday’s final tabulation – but the difference was only 20-thousand-535 votes.  That’s well within the one-percent margin that gives the trailing candidate the right to force a recount.  Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien confirmed that decision.  The president won Wisconsin four years ago by less than 23-thousand votes.

The Wood County clerk says some national reports were wrong – his county didn’t run out of ballots on Election Day.  County Clerk Trent Minor says he doesn’t know where the national news got information like that, but it didn’t come from him.  Minor called a Wednesday news conference to say he never received a call from any precinct saying it was out of ballots.  Wisconsin saw a record number of votes cast for this presidential election.  Joe Biden is projected as the winner in the Badger State, but the Trump campaign is asking for a recount.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court will stay on the sidelines while the fate of Governor Tony Evers’ emergency order limiting the size of public indoor gatherings is hashed out.  The Supreme Court refused to consider the case Wednesday, offering no explanation.  The order was issued in early October and it is set to expire Friday.  The 3rd District Court of Appeals blocked the order October 23rd while it considers the arguments.  The decision not to take the case from the appellate court came on a four-to-three vote of the justices.

Carleton College political analyst Steven Schier concludes there are 'two Minnesotas' following Tuesday's election.  Schier points to Democrat Joe Biden receiving strong support in the metro areas and President Trump doing well in Greater Minnesota.  Schier says it looks like in the state Senate you'll have a narrow Republican majority in the Senate and a narrow Democratic majority in the House.  He says that means they're going to have to find a way to work together. Minnesota has the only divided legislature in the country.

Former Governor Scott Walker is suggesting that Joe Biden's 20-thousand vote lead in Wisconsin is too steep to be overturned in a recount.  Walker Tweeted today (Wednesday), "After recount in 2011 race for WI Supreme Court, there was a swing of 300 votes."  After recount in 2016 Presidential race in WI, @realDonaldTrump numbers went up by 131.  As I said, 20,000 is a high hurdle."

The Salvation Army of Oshkosh says it is seeing a sharp decline in the number of volunteers to be bellringers this holiday season.  It’s putting out a call for volunteers.  The Army says sign-ups are off by 63-percent compared to the same time last year.  Officials worry the lack of bellringers will impact the money raised during the Red Kettle season.  The money collected helps provide food and hot meals for the homeless, distributes coats and toys to poor children at Christmas, and helps fund social workers who work with clients to rebuild their lives.

Superior city officials say the B-N-S-F Railway has agreed to continue reimbursements for some residents dealing with taconite dust.  The final details of the agreement are still being worked out.  People living within a half-mile of the taconite facility and conveyor belt will get the money to cover their costs of cleaning the dust off their vehicles, homes, and other property.  The Superior City Council voted unanimously last month to ask the company to continue the payments.

Republicans remain in charge as the balance of power in the Wisconsin Legislature is unchanged by Tuesday’s election.  The G-O-P held on to its majorities in both the Assembly and Senate.  Democrats managed to deny the Republicans a veto-proof majority in the Senate when Brad Pfaff was elected in the La Crosse and Crawford counties area of western Wisconsin.  Republicans picked up a seat in the northwestern part of the state and were holding a lead in a senate seat in the Green Bay area while waiting for final voting results.

A St. Paul man is accused of injuring an Olmsted County sheriff's deputy in a courtroom scuffle in Rochester.  The deputy was called to a courtroom Monday to take 41-year-old Anthony Carman into custody after a failed drug test.  The sheriff's office say Carman began fighting with deputies and pushed one of them hard into a wall.  The deputy then fell to the floor.  Carman was eventually subdued and taken to jail.  He is expected to be charged with assaulting the 52-year-old deputy, who suffered a bump on his forehead.

The owner of some large shopping malls in Wisconsin is filing for bankruptcy. CBL & Associates Properties is based in Tennessee, and operates 107 malls across the country, including Brookfield Square Mall, and East Towne and West Towne Malls in Madison. The bankruptcy filing should not impact day-to-day operations in the short term.

Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon says all the numbers are not finalized, but Minnesota is in the running to have the best voter turnout in the country.  Around 78-percent of eligible Minnesota voters cast ballots in Tuesday's election.  Simon says things went smoothly in the middle of a once-in-a-century pandemic.  He said,"I thought there would be more conflicts or reports about everything from masks, to political apparel, to allegations of voter suppression or intimidation and we had next to none of those across the state, up and down, 87 counties."  There around four-point-one million eligible voters in Minnesota.
