Audits estimated the UW System spent about $40 million on DEI, and state agencies spent about $2.2 million. In a press release, Joint Legislative Audit Committee co-chair, Senator Eric Wimberger said the audits show “the extent to which DEI grifters profiteer off Wisconsin taxpayers.” The Oconto Republican called DEI “race-based discrimination masquerading as equality,” and said it should not be tolerated in state government. The audits found that agencies often failed to ensure that DEI plans were fully implemented or to record how they corrected any noncompliance.
