Lawmakers in the Chippewa Valley want to reallocate untapped state funds towards emergency services grants, to help fill the gap created by the closure of hospitals in Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls. State Senator Jesse James says St. Joseph’s and Sacred Heart together account for 40% of ER visits in the region, serving 22,000 patients last year.  Two bills would free up the money, and allow it to be used for the grants. They’re scheduled for public hearings at the Capitol this week.
